OLD
BUSINESS:
Pow
Wow 2003 – Annette Conrad, St. Louis CVC, presented an
overview of the upcoming Pow Wow, the costs, marketing and
networking opportunities, and sponsorship packages (see
attached). At
this year’s Pow Wow approximately 70-80 people participated
in the Missouri evening, particularly representatives from the
United Kingdom, Germany and France.
Six hundred
volunteers will be needed.
Donna Cordle Powell will be organizing pre and post PAM
tours for the Missouri Division of Tourism.
MDT has made a financial commitment, which will be
finalized when the State budgeting process is complete.
Several large corporations have been approached for
sponsorships and Missy Slay has been hired as the Convention
Director and fundraising.
The St. Louis CVC has $1.5 million in reserve.
The Missouri Travel Council has $1,500 budgeted for Pow
Wow sponsorship.
Concern was
expressed about the large amounts of sponsorships and whether
there would be opportunity for some of the smaller CVB’s to
participate. Tracy
Kimberlin moved that an ad hok committee be assigned to work
with the St. Louis CVC on this issue.
Joe Donnelly seconded the motion.
Motion carried. Joe
Donnelly offered to head up the committee.
Other committee members suggested were Annette Conrad,
Donna Costellia and Renee Graham.
Director
Search –
Approximately six to eight candidates were interviewed, with
three selected for final interview which will be conducted by
the Tourism Commission on June 17th.
Comparative
CVB Financial Survey – Copies of the survey were handed
out. Twenty
CVB’s participated. The
survey will be placed on the web site.
Legislative
Update – Same Allen and Bob Smith presented an update on
the Missouri Division of Tourism budget.
June 17th is the deadline for the
Governor’s signature. The
importance of working with those currently running for office
was emphasized. It
is anticipated that the tourism industry will be faced with a
major education process with the new legislators.
It may be more of a challenge next year to secure the
budget. If all
incumbents win their elections, there will be 112 new
legislators. Recent
research figures have indicated that the updated ROI (return
on investment) is $60.00. Sam Allen made the motion that MACVB continue to work with
our industry partners (Missouri Travel Council, etc.) to
develop a legislative strategy, including developing an RFP to
be sent to the Beenders Marketing Group.
Tracy Kimberlin seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Bob Smith
expressed appreciation on behalf of the Tourism Commission for
all of the hard work of MACVB in the budget process.
If the proposed budget is approved, the Tourism
Division will recommend full funding of the coop marketing
program and advertising programs.
NEW
BUSINESS:

Program – The Executive Committee discussed the potential of
an internship program involving one or several universities
with tourism industry program emphasis.
Interns could be utilized at a multiple of CVB’s.

their State.
Sales
Academy – Interest was expressed in pursuing a
sales academy similar to the one held in St. Louis.
Thirteen participants would be required to offer the
course. Cost
would be approximately $450.00.
Early December was considered.
Applications would first be offered to the membership,
then open to other industry members.
